Canada Research Chairs (CRC)
Federal chairs that universities use to attract and retain researchers: Tier 1 for world leaders, Tier 2 for exceptional emerging researchers. Institutions nominate from their own chair allocation; individuals cannot apply.

- Tier 1: C$200,000 a year for 7 years · Tier 2: C$100,000 a year for 5 years, plus a C$20,000 annual research stipend in the first term · each renewable once; paid to the institution

- Tier 1: full professors, or associate professors expected to be promoted within two years. Tier 2: emerging researchers, normally within 10 years of their first independent academic appointment, extendable for career interruptions through a Tier 2 justification. No nationality restriction.

- Summary of proposal: 2,500 characters; Quality of Nominee: 1 page; Proposed Research Program: 6 pages, plus a 100-word executive summary and 3 pages of references; Institutional Environment and Commitment: 6 pages; CV in the program's own format; three letters of reference

- Open now Continuous intake: institutions submit nominations at any time through the Convergence Portal · results within 3 to 6 months

SSHRC Partnership Grant
Four- to seven-year grants for formal partnerships between postsecondary institutions and partner organisations in the social sciences and humanities. Stage 1 funds preparation of an invited Stage 2 application; both stages are scored on Challenge (40%), Feasibility (30%) and Capability (30%).
